Hi Everyone, as you all know our dojo is relatively new. We are about to revamp the dojo area. Sections will include, White to red/orange belt, yellow to purple/white belt, brown and black belt, plus an instructors area. We will also have a ‘lesson plans’ area for Instructors and be uploading more tutorial videos. As we change the dojo, we thought we would keep the old design underneath.   Ossu Linden

I do appologise for not getting the video up sooner. My Japanese instructor is here in the UK and I have to be with him. He leaves the UK on Monday 18th Oct. I will then be on the kata video editing every day until the 5 Heian kata, are uploaded to the members dojo, in video tutorial and PDF format.

Thanks Linden, I have my yellow belt now. 2 1/2 months to get it. It went well. I have some points to work on such as back stance, locking in hard and a few other ones but your online dojo must take big credit. I work shift work and maybe attend the local dojo 4 or 5 times a month. Alot of work has been done at home. I am 46 yrs old and flexibility is my biggest obstacle. But I am working to overcome it, it just hurts alot. Thanks again. Chuck.

Very well done site. I am just curious, not to get ahead of myself, how testing is handled if at all. Are there dojos affiliated with that we can test at in person?

  17. admin
    January 28, 2011 | 10:01 am

    Hi Adam,

Although we have many members practicing karate at home, without testing, we always recommend our members find their nearest shotokan karate dojo.

We have had many Karate Sensei contact us, asking about affiliation and we are working on it. At the moment we only have our 9 karate dojo in the United kingdom.

As for testing online, that’s an interesting idea.

Since december I sadly am not able to do my karate training due to glandular fever.
I really hope to get my fitness back soon, as I had set my mind to go for the first dan exam in May in Utrecht, Holland.
I have been looking online for ideas for the Enbu, which is part of the first dan exam now.
Thats how i found your site.
My karateschool is Sportschool Bruinsma and my sensei is Ruud Bruinsma. Maybe you heard of him.

Just a curious question. How come you present paying in dollars for the online tuition while you are practising in England?

PS The people who look after the technical side of the website decided on dollar, they say it’s the currency of the internet, I tend to agree :)

    Good Evening…

In addition to Taikyoku Shodan, I am in need of Taikyoku Nidan. Is there any possibility that Taikyoku Nidan will be added?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi Scott,
Wow! That brings back memories:) When I was very young, we practiced Taikyoku Nidan, but not for many years. So I have done some research and can see that there are several versions out there. If you let me know the karate dojo where you train and organisation you belog to, I’ll see what I can do.

will this actually teach you karate or is it better to go to an actual dojo

  26. admin
    August 2, 2011 | 11:16 pm

    Hi KP,

We always recommend attending a local karate dojo, this web site was originally created to supplement a karateka’s dojo training, but we seem to be getting more and more people contacting us, who have no way of training at a karate dojo and are using our content at home. if possible, find a good karate dojo.

if you cannot reach a dojo will this teach you the same things

  28. admin
    August 6, 2011 | 9:14 pm

Hi Kp, It will, but we always recommend finding a good dojo with a top sensei. If that’s not possible, we have the next best thing, but there are certain elements we cannot duplicate online, the main one being kumite or sparring. Our system is based upon the shotokan style of karate.

    Hope this helps

    Hi.

I am aware that each dojo has its own ways of doing a kata. But there are remarkable changes on the Katas I know from my dojo and the ones that are shown here. And the names is not even close the same that I’ve heard from where I train.
The “Heian Shodan” kata here is very similar to what they call “Fju kata ich” (do not know the spelling but that’s how it’s sort of how it’s pronounced) in the dojo I train in.

So I wonder if there is any point for me to learn from this site since you do not have the same name or way to perform the kata?
    Thank you.

Hi Max, This karate resource is predominantly based on the shotokan karate style, so If you could let me know what style you practice, we will know if our site will be a match for you. Basic karate moves are very similar, but kata do vary from style to style. Although it does sound like your style of karatedo is Matsubayashi-ryu.

Hello again, thanks for the fast reply!
It is Jundo Kan karate style I practise. It seems like a great site with nice instructions, it’s just that if we don’t have the same style I might not be able to take what I learn from here to the dojo since it’s not the same style. I don’t believe it’s bad to learn those katas as well since you get more understanding from basically whatever you learn, but too bad that I can’t take what I learn from here and use it to my advantage in the dojo.

Hi Max, I believe you practice a goju ryu type of karate, so the karate kata would indeed be different. Maybe one day soon, we will start inviting other karate sensei to upload tutorials into our online dojo :)

just wanting to give greetings to fellow karatekas
this was the martial art i learned as a child…i
loved it, i still have my old iskf card and my certificates of rank..my sensei retired, but to anyone looking into this, this ryu (style) has
an amazing history, methods, and principles, and the few times i have had to use it, it has always been there, and i have come out unscathed, & the “victor” tho as most true martial artists will tell you its not about fighting, rather self improvement. i hold these ideas close to my heart, i was one of those skinny hyperactive kids, im stil skinny, but i can control my energy level better, bc of the discipline it taught me, and i can defend myself from bully-like people, but these days i dont have to, bc of the fact that the art taught me how to command better energy too…and i cannot thank the artform enough
its healthy too!! remember, its about inner improvement too…happy holidays or merry christmas everybody!!! oh yeah, theres a book written by the founder gichin funokoshi called karate do…its awesome! and check out the wikipedia page on shotokan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shotokan pretty awesome stuff there..oh mr.
Lindin? i have my own puter business, and the shotokan logo would look great on your site, i could put it ther, or maybe u could…just a suggestion… =) shoot me an email @ ntegr8@hotmail.com & ill hook you up!! OSS!! hehe..memoreeees!
