Kizami Zuki – Jab Punch

A boxers main punch but not normally the chosen punch of a karateka! The favourite punch of many Karateka, is gyaku zuki or reverse punch, but Kizami zuki or jabbing punch is a karate technique that should be studied and practiced just as much as the other karate punches. Boxers work extremely hard on the jab, they see it as one of, if not the number one punch in their training, so I encourage you to practice this karate technique often.

There are a few different versions of kizami tsuki to practice -
1. From a hidari zenkutsu dachi (front stance with the left leg in front), punch with the front arm, leave the punch out, making sure you have a strong hikite. Shoulders down and relaxed, head facing forward, not twisted to the side.
2. From zenkutsu dachi (front stance), punch with the front arm, snap the punch back, making sure you have a strong hikite, which also snaps back strongly to jyu kamae.
3. From jyu kamae or fighting stance, keep your guard up and punch with the lead arm, similar to a boxers jab, with no hikite, which is obviously the best for self defense.
